Adherence Therapy

Adherence therapy

Adherence therapy is a collaborative, structured, and practical approach and is based on Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Compliance Therapy. It is a flexible and adaptable toolkit that can be utilised by mental health workers to structure their conversations with clients about medication.

The therapy is based on a set of principals and general skills and is divided into four phases:

  • Engagement
  • Assessment
  • Key therapeutic activities
    • Problem solving
    • Looking back
    • Exploring ambivalence
    • Talking about beliefs and concerns
    • Looking forward
  • Evaluation
